And Juneteenth? Here in Canada we’re generally not familiar the tradition but Marcus is full of stories about growing up in the southern United States where celebrating this freedom gathers people to sing and dance and eat! (Read more about Marcus Mosely below)

What a great tradition to add to Father’s Day here in Langley!

Marcus Mosely

Originally from Ralls, Texas, Marcus grew up immersed in the music and culture of the Gospel tradition.  He moved to Vancouver in 1985 and became a Canadian citizen in 2008. In 2016, he was inducted into the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame.

He has starred in the stage productions of Ain’t Misbehavin’Black and Gold Revue (both Arts Cub), and Show Boat (Livent). He also created and directed It’s Time to Sing (Arts Club), a chronicle of African-American Gospel music from slavery to Carnegie Hall. He was nominated for a Jessie Richardson Award for Best Performance in a Musical.

In the studio, he has worked with Jim Byrnes and Colin James.  He also appeared in the movie Twist of Faith, and in the Holiday Heart as the singing voice of Ving Rhames.  He was the singing voice of Fluttershy in an episode of My Little Pony. More recently he has starred as the voice of Kenny G in the Big Bad Boo Production of ABC with Kenny G. He was nominated for a Leo for this work in 2021 and has recently finished recording season 2.

Marcus served as artistic director of the Marcus Mosely Chorale from 2011 to 2022 and recorded a CD, Labour of Love with the Chorale in 2017. He was also a founding member of the award-winning roots Gospel trio, The Sojourners who won WCMA Awards for Best Contemporary Christian/Gospel Recording in 2011 and Best Spiritual Album of the Year in 2014 and were nominated for a JUNO in 2010. The trio has opened for such Gospel and Music legends as The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Five Blind Boys of Alabama, Dr. John and David Sanborn, and Bobby McFerrin.

A whole lot a singing and dancing starts at 1:30PM on the outdoor stage with Sister J’s Soul Summit and the newly formed Bez Gospel Choir. Then we head inside Bez for a concert with the Marcus Mosely Ensemble.

Sister J’s Soul Summit was featured at last year’s Juneteenth celebrations and they definitely brought the funk! We are thrilled to have them back!

Their understated description on their Facebook page says, “Live band based in Metro Vancouver. Bringing yesterday's Funk, Soul and R&B favourites to today!”

A new community choir in Langley, BC in the Black Gospel style, that features local voices and stellar vocal arrangements by director Lincoln Tatem. Old school tunes, and contempory songs delivered with power and passion and a high energy backing band.
